Thinking about upgrading your fireplace? Updated your fireplace can increase the value of your home.
There are many options to choose from depending on what you’re looking for. If you want a modern look, choose stacked stone with little to no mortar joints. For a more rustic stone or veneer look, round field stones are an excellent choice. You can use whole stones or a stone veneer. Reclaimed stones come from old barns, walls, or nature are an excellent, sustainable option.
Stone Veneer
Veneer is a thin layer of natural or artificial stone used to give the look of a full-thickness stone wall and adds a decorative touch. Stone veneers can be made from various materials, including natural stone, concrete, or a combination of both.
Mortar joints also add a unique touch to your fireplace’s design. Here are three options:
Types of Mortar Joints
With dry laid or recess mortar joints, the stones appear to be touching each other without or with very little to no mortar showing.
Standard mortar joints can range in size from ⅜” to 1”. Raked joints can be flush with the stones or recessed, depending on the look you’re going for.
Wide mortar joints are one or more inches wide, and they add a rustic look to stones and veneer.
